[2021] hardcover book: WHITEOUT
[2021] hardcover book: WHITEOUT
WHITEOUT is an art project consisting of 28 art photos by Christian Clauwers, and 26 poems, songs and insights written by the indigenous Peoples of the Arctic, in particular the Sámi and Inuit.
It is a tribute to the polar regions of our planet, in which the serenity, silence and splendour of this unique but endangered region are expressed. This book provides a unique look into the world of these remarkable semi-nomadic peoples.
With this project, I searched for the boundaries of the visible. A “white-out” is a weather condition in which the features and horizon of a snow-covered land are indistinguishable because of a uniform light distribution. In the WHITEOUT-series, one can experience a poetic silence in every image, a filled emptiness of essence and experience.

Photography by Christian Clauwers
Christian has sailed the five oceans and visited both polar regions in pursuit of his passion to document the beauty and vulnerability of our planet. He uses a visual approach to effectively promote awareness of climate change. This reflects the essence of his love for the natural world, which he believes can only be saved by showcasing the beauty of it.
