photographer with a mission
Christian Clauwers is a world-renowned Belgian photographer, explorer, and environmental storyteller who has spent over a decade documenting the beauty and fragility of our planet, with a focus on the natural world, marine and polar research, climate change, biodiversity, and international scientific projects.
His work highlights the complicated relationship between humans and nature, using photography and storytelling to bridge the gap between science, policy and industry, while advocating for environmental protection, scientific research, impactful change and social responsibility.
An ambassador of the Climate Pact for the European Union, fellow of The Explorers Club and co-founder of the Arctic World Archive, he has been documenting the global impacts of climate change, biodiversity loss and sea level rise for more than a decade. His focus is on polar regions, indigenous knowledge, marine sciences and island communities.
His mission is to raise global environmental awareness through visual storytelling, exhibitions, lectures, publications and worldwide collaborations.
BRIDGING HUMANS AND NATURE THROUGH POWERFUL VISUAL STORYTELLING
Christian Clauwers uses powerful visual storytelling to reveal the fragility and evolving relationship between humans and nature. Having sailed the five oceans and collaborated with international scientific teams, he has spent over a decade documenting environmental change in some of the world’s most remote and vulnerable regions. Through lectures, exhibitions, and conferences—hosted by institutions such as the European Commission, the European Environment Agency, and UN Climate Change Conferences—he bridges the gap between science, policy, and industry.
In 2023, his photography was exhibited in the Federal Parliament of Belgium, where he organized a debate in the Chamber of Representatives and delivered a lecture in the Belgian Senate. The past years, he exhibited and lectured at four Belgian embassies worldwide. In 2024, the Belgian government appointed him to lead outreach for the state-of-the-art research vessel BELGICA, furthering his mission to connect scientific discovery with public awareness.
