Art photography with a mission
Christian Clauwers is an internationally renowned Belgian photographer, explorer, and environmental storyteller, dedicated to capturing the beauty and fragility of our planet. His work explores the natural world, marine and polar research, climate change, biodiversity, corporate ESG initiatives, and international scientific projects.
Through compelling visual storytelling, he explores the complex relationship between humans and nature, bridging the gap between science, policy, and industry while advocating for environmental protection, scientific research, and impactful change.
An ambassador of the Climate Pact for the European Union, a Fellow of The Explorers Club and a co-founder of the Arctic World Archive, Christian Clauwers has spent almost two decades witnessing and documenting the effects of climate change, biodiversity loss, and sea level rise. His work explores the impact of environmental shifts on humans, ocean and polar regions, marine ecosystems, polar research, indigenous knowledge and island communities.
His mission is to raise global environmental awareness through visual storytelling, exhibitions, lectures, publications and international collaborations.
“Through the lens of exploration and visual storytelling, my mission is to capture the fragile beauty of our planet, showing decision-makers what is at stake and inspiring a deeper connection to the natural world.”
BRIDGING HUMANS AND NATURE THROUGH POWERFUL VISUAL STORYTELLING
Christian Clauwers has sailed the five oceans and collaborated with leading international scientific teams, documenting some of the world’s most remote and vulnerable regions. Through his art photography and visual storytelling, he captures the evolving relationship between humans and nature, revealing both its fragility and resilience.
His work has been showcased at global institutions, including the European Commission, the European Environment Agency, and United Nations (including UN Climate Change Conferences), where he engages audiences through immersive lectures, exhibitions, and conferences.
In 2023, his photography was exhibited in the Federal Parliament of Belgium, where he organized a climate debate in the Chamber of Representatives and delivered a lecture in the Belgian Senate. Over the past years, he has exhibited and lectured at four Belgian embassies worldwide, using his work to inspire policymakers, scientists, and the public. In 2024, the Belgian government appointed him to lead visual communication for the state-of-the-art research vessel R/V BELGICA, advancing his mission to make scientific discovery accessible to a wider audience.
